Gillette, Wyoming
An enticing new (and overdue) concept in designing cemeteries is to create them so that they are more inviting spaces “for the living.” This is what this CPRA (Cemetery Planning Resource Alliance)-designed cemetery in northern Wyoming achieves-spaces that are comfortable to linger and spend time in as opposed to being stark and bleak.
Rural streams and ponds are accentuated by more formal reflective pools, giving the gardens a variety of soothing sounds that only water can provide and a serenity that would otherwise be missing.
This project uses almost 600 tons of locally procured river boulders and several 16’ flagstone slabs as beaches and bridges.
